SALT LAKE CITY --Harper Kamp scored 17 points and Jorge Gutierrez added 12 as California defeated Utah 60-46 Thursday night for its sixth straight victory over the Utes.The first-place Golden Bears (23-6, 13-3) kept alive their Pac-12 regular-season title hopes, with remaining games at Colorado on Sunday and at Stanford on March 4.If Washington loses at Washington State Saturday, and Cal wins at Colorado Sunday, the Bears will clinch at least a tie of the regular season Pac 12 title.They won the league in 2009-2010 for the first time since 1960.
With 12 points, five assists and four rebounds, Gutierrez became just the second ever Cal player to reach 1,000 points, 400 rebounds and 400 assists in his career. The first is Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson.Cal handed the Utes (5-22, 2-13) an 81-45 loss on Jan. 14.
This one was much closer, at least early. Utah led 10-8, and was within 22-18 with 5 minutes left in the half before Cal went on a 13-5 run.A 3-pointer at the buzzer by Justin Cobbs gave Cal a 35-23 halftime lead.Utah got within 46-39 on a 3-pointer by Chris Hines and a running jumper by Jason Washburn midway through the second half.
