This past year has been a whirlwind for myself personally, as are many years. But compared to Oderah Chidom of the Bishop O'Dowd basketball team, I seemingly haven't done much! Oderah has had one amazing year in her basketball life.
Chidom's 2012 started with a basketball season at Bishop O'Dowd where the Dragons went 30-3 on the year. The team was ranked 7th in the nation and when it was all said and done and finished the season with a state title-- a game which they won by 38 points! Oderah is a 6'4" forward for the BOD hoops squad and played an important part in the championship run. Chidom is not only tall, but she is lanky, quick and has good basketball instincts which cause her to pile up rebounds and blocks. Oderah and the Dragon bigs on last year's team were so dominant down low, they gave the guards the ability to roam free on defense and attack the passing lanes, frustrating any team which challenged Bishop O'Dowd.
After her Championship year with BOD, Oderah was selected as one of 35 players nationally to try out for the Under-17 USA Basketball Girls Team. Out of the 35 trying out, only 12 would make the final cut and after an intense tryout in Colorado Springs, Oderah's name was one of the 12 listed to make the team. Oderah played well on Team USA, and Team USA played even well-er-er. The U-17 team went on to earn the gold medal by going 8-0 with a 35 point margin of victory. To say the least, they tore up the tournament. Oderah averaged 6 points, 6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game on an team where the stats were spread around to all 12 players.
Now, Oderah and the Dragons are back at it again this year. BOD is ranked as the top team in the Nation. That's right, number one. Chidom is a big part of that ranking as she's one of the seniors on the squad and will be counted on to be a leader. Oderah has also committed to Duke to play basketball next year.... Just one more basketball highlight in a year packed with them for Oderah Chidom.
