Earthquakes to pick 15th in MLS SuperDraft

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The San Jose Earthquakes hold the 15th (first round) and 33rd (second round) overall picks in the 2011 Major League Soccer SuperDraft on Thursday, Jan. 13 live on ESPN2 at 9 a.m. PT. The 2011 MLS SuperDraft is being held in Baltimore at the Convention Center in conjunction with the NSCAA Annual Convention. The draft will consist of three rounds of 18 picks. A three round Supplemental Draft will take place on Tuesday, January 18.

The 2011 SuperDraft will consist of three rounds of 18 picks for a total of 54 player selections. On Tuesday, January 18, MLS will hold a Supplemental Draft that will also consist of three rounds of 18 picks.

Fourth round selections that had been traded between clubs will now be reflected in the first round draft order of the Supplemental Draft. The first round of the Supplemental Draft will follow the order of what was to be the fourth round of this years SuperDraft.

Through the Expansion Priority Draft, Vancouver Whitecaps FC earned the first selection in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft while the Portland Timbers will select second. The next six selections are from teams that did not qualify for the 2010 MLS Cup Playoffs beginning with the team with fewest regular season points (3 points per win, one point per tie). The remaining eight positions are ranked by fewest regular season points among the teams that were eliminated in the same round of the MLS Cup Playoffs.

The 2011 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas will be held at the Baltimore Convention Center on Thursday, Jan. 13 beginning at 9 a.m. PT. The first round of SuperDraft will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
