Carr: Fourth-quarter grounding penalty should have been TD

Derek Carr was wearing a microphone during the Raiders' Week 16 win over the Colts, revealing an interesting interaction between the quarterback and wide receiver Seth Roberts.

With 13:23 remaining in the game and the Raiders facing third and 15 from the Colts' 28-yard line, Carr called out Roberts by name before the snap, slapping his right hamstring and pointing deep.

Roberts clearly did not receive the message, as he broke off his route and curled at the 15-yard line while Carr lofted a ball 20 yards over his head into the end zone.

"Run a go route!" Carr yelled as the punt unit took his place on the field. "That's a freakin' touchdown!"

Instead of a touchdown, however, Carr was flagged for intentional grounding.

Head coach Jack Del Rio gave Carr sage advice as his third-year quarterback reached the sideline.

"The worst thing you can do is be frustrated now," Del Rio said.

The veteran tip resulted in a nice moment between quarterback and receiver as the pair sat on the bench and reconciled their missed connection...

Carr: "I love the heck outta you and that's why I was trusting you with the go route, you know what I mean?"

     Roberts: "My bad."

Carr: "No, no. What I'm saying is it wasn't your fault. I only get frustrated because you had a 1-on-1. I hope you know that..."

Despite holding on to beat the Colts, the Raiders lost Carr to a season-ending fractured right fibula on their next possession, leaving backup quarterback Matt McGloin to connect with Roberts and the Raiders other targets in the season finale and playoffs.
