Report: Jack Del Rio told USC he's not leaving Raiders

On Monday morning, USC athletic director Pat Haden took the interim tag off Clay Helton and named him the permanent head coach of the USC football team.

Helton reportedly was not the Trojans' first choice, however.

Soon after Steve Sarkisian was fired back on Oct. 12, USC reached out to Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio, who responded by saying he was staying with Oakland, according to Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News.

Del Rio played at USC in the early 1980s. He was an All-American linebacker, voted the MVP of the 1985 Rose Bowl and has been inducted into the school's Hall of Fame.

The Raiders' head coach was asked about USC reaching out and gave a smile and a non-answer.

“I think USC hired a coach today, so I’m wishing them the best," Del Rio said. "I’m a former Trojan, inducted into the Hall of Fame this past spring. I am very happy for the program that they have the guy that they believe can lead them going forward and wish them nothing but the best.”
