Coliseum Authority not ready yet to vote on Raiders 2019 lease deal

The Raiders are moving closer to playing their 2019 home games at the Oakland Coliseum, though they aren't at the finish line yet.

The Coliseum Authority is scheduled to hold a closed-door meeting on Wednesday morning to provide an update on the Raiders lease negotiations, Authority chairman and executive director Scott McKibben told NBC Sports California's Scott Bair.

While most terms on a lease have been agreed for weeks, the Coliseum Authority is not ready to hold a vote on the deal.

The Raiders are expected to pay $7.5 million in rent for the 2019 season. That's the same number the team was discussing before the city of Oakland filed a lawsuit against the team, bringing talks to a halt. The Raiders are scheduled to move into their new Las Vegas stadium prior to the 2020 season, but the deal they are working on with the Coliseum Authority will include a team option for the 2020 season in case something unforeseen happens in Las Vegas.

Smaller details have been worked out recently between the Raiders and the Coliseum Authority.

A vote by the Coliseum Authority, which would need to happen in an open-session meeting, is expected soon and could happen next week.

If and when the Coliseum Authority approves the deal through a vote, the agreement would then need to be approved by the Oakland City Council and Alameda County Board of Supervisors.

A new lease would allow the Raiders to play 2019 at Oakland Coliseum with an option for 2020, a provision that would be exercised in the unexpected event that the team’s new Las Vegas stadium isn’t ready to host NFL football that season.

The Raiders turned back to the Coliseum in the last few weeks after they were unable to get approval to play at the Giants' Oracle Park in San Francisco.
