Senior Bowl: 49ers NFL draft target Josh Allen no longer participating

The full rosters for the Senior Bowl were released on Wednesday, and the 49ers learned the identities of the defensive linemen they will coach on the South squad.

Edge rusher Josh Allen of Kentucky, a possible target with the No. 2 overall pick, was not assigned to the 49ers team. He was also not included on the roster of the Raiders-coached North squad.

Allen has apparently pulled out of the game and the week of practices. He is the only player announced as accepting an invitation to the Senior Bowl to not be listed on either of the rosters.

Allen was likely heading to the South squad before his decision to pull out of the game. Allen had an opportunity to distinguish himself during the week with Nick Bosa, formerly of Ohio State, and Michigan defensive end Rashan Gary, among others, not eligible to participate in the premier college All-Star game.

Allen had a phenomenal senior season with 17 sacks, including three in the Kentucky’s bowl victory over Penn State.

He was a consensus All-America selection, as well as the SEC’s Defensive Player of the Year. Allen was also chosen as the winner of the Ronnie Lott IMPACT Trophy, which takes into account on-field and off-field excellence.

With Allen’s decision to skip the Senior Bowl, the top edge rusher scheduled to play for the South team is Montez Sweat of Mississippi State, who recorded 22.5 sacks in his final two college seasons.

The 49ers hold the No. 2 overall pick in the draft. The 49ers have five scheduled draft picks, including No. 36 overall in the second round.

Here is the list of defensive ends that will be coached by the 49ers at the Senior Bowl:

Anthony Nelson, Iowa, 6-7, 271
Jaylon Ferguson, Louisiana Tech, 6-5, 262
Carl Granderson, Wyoming, 6-5, 261
Jonathan Ledbetter, Georgia, 6-4, 280
Montez Sweat, Mississippi State, 6-6, 245
Oshane Ximines, Old Dominion, 6-4, 255
