Before the 49ers took the field for the first day of organized team activities last week, coach Chip Kelly declared the competitions throughout the roster had not yet started.

OTAs are underway for the 49ers in Santa Clara, and players are getting acclimated in Chip Kelly's first year as head coach.

SANTA CLARA – Tank Carradine and Jimmie Ward showed up at new positions on the 49ers’ practice field Tuesday as the club opened organized team activities.

General manager Trent Baalke began the practice in 2013, when the 49ers had 11 draft picks and a proven, veteran-heavy roster after a Super Bowl season.

It took nearly three seasons, but the 49ers believe they found the solution for Cornellius "Tank" Carradine to become a productive NFL player.
