And if that win comes Thursday night against San Antonio, the Warriors also would clinch the No. 1 overall seed in the playoffs.

The Spurs, who have spent the entire season on the heels of the defending champs, pay a visit to Oracle Arena with an opportunity to spoil any chance of the Warriors surpassing the 72-10 mark of the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls.

The Warriors (69-9) are trying to snap out of a slide that has resulted in two losses in their last three games, both at home, where previously has won 54 in a row.
The Spurs (65-12) with a win not only would deny the Warriors their own place in history but also trim to 2.5 games the margin between the teams.

Though Warriors coach Steve Kerr has shown no indication of resting healthy players, it’s widely known that San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich does it as a matter of routine.
Whether Popovich will rest players Thursday, or when the teams meet again Sunday in San Antonio, is a mystery that may not be solved until the hours before tipoff.

MATCHUPS TO WATCH
Draymond Green/Andrew Bogut vs. LaMarcus Aldridge: Aldridge was key to the Spurs beating the Warriors last month in Texas, but Bogut was not available. The 7-footer is back, and he’ll spend considerable time defending Aldridge, who is an inch shorter. The Warriors may be able to find an edge with his tag-team approach.
Stephen Curry/Klay Thompson vs. Tony Parker/Danny Green: Parker remains the engine behind the Spurs offense and denying his penetration is crucial for any opposing defense. Curry and Thompson usually alternate assignments. Green’s primary task is to keep Curry from going off. He’ll get plenty of help. Always does.
