Monta Ellis was hit with a five-game suspension for violating the terms of the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program, the NBA announced on Friday.
The former Warriors guard just completed the second year of a 4-year, $44 million deal with the Pacers.
"Monta's suspension is a very serious matter to our franchise and it will be dealt with accordingly," Pacers GM Kevin Pritchard said in a statement.

Monta averaged 8.5 points per game this past season -- the lowest since he registered 6.8 points per contest as a rookie with Golden State in 2005-06.
In March 2012, the Warriors traded Monta along with Kwame Brown and Ekpe Udoh to Milwaukee in exchange for Andrew Bogut and Stephen Jackson.
Pistons small forward Reggie Bullock is also suspended five games for the same infraction.
