LeBron James and the Heat defeated the San Antonio Spurs for their second consecutive championship Thursday night, and one lucky Warriors fan was there to see it.
The man bold enough to wear a bright blue Stephen Curry jersey amidst a sea of Miami's "white-out" had some pretty good seats, too, plenty good enough to be seen heckling Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich on multiple occasions.
With Game 7's massive television audience, the Warriors fan quickly drew national attention. Curry himself acknowledged his fan in a tweet:
Lesson of the last 10 minutes. GSW blue really stands out in a sea of White— Stephen Curry (@StephenCurry30) June 21, 2013
Center Festus Ezeli also went public:
Steph jersey in Miami?!!? Nice— Festus Ezeli (@fezzyfel) June 21, 2013
And it didn't take long before the Stephen Curry jersey in Miami had its own (parody) Twitter account.
But the real question remains. Who was that Warriors fan at Game 7 of the 2013 NBA Finals?
Further investigation reveals a number of interesting observations:
-First of all, the Warriors fan put surrounding Heat fans to shame, cheering wildly for Miami while those around him remained relatively demure.
-The parody Twitter account published this picture of the fan being escorted out of the arena at 8:49 p.m., and other tweets confirmed he was walked out.
-The fan can be seen cheering Dwyane Wade's bucket to end the first half, but he's absent to start the third quarter and does not return until taking his seat again with 6:15 to play in the third quarter.
-The fan is present and cheering until Tim Duncan completed his three-point play with 3:11 to play in the game, at which point he disappears, never to be seen again.
UPDATE (4 p.m. Friday): CSNBayArea.com has made contact with the fan, who confirmed that he was not in his seat because he was escorted from the game:
"The reason I went 'missing' for the first half of the 3rd was because I got kicked out... and then I got kicked out with about 4 minutes left in the game."
An anonymous tip has revealed the Warriors fan's Instagram account, with pictures confirming his identity:
One comment on another site claimed the man to be one Herman Mann of the Bay Area, and the Instagram account -- hiiipowerherm -- seems to corroborate that story.
